Phantom

Carolyn Albemarle only wanted to start her life over after having left behind the place where she had spent the first fourteen years of her life. She wanted to escape her past and focus on something else - and in trying to escape her own past, Carolyn ties herself up in someone else's when she discovers a leather sketchbook, journal, and scrapbook on the property next to her own. The books and property belonged to four sisters - four sisters from whom Carolyn descends. Meredith, the youngest, was a horse girl with a stallion named Phantom, and she lived a short life haunted by a decision that neither she nor Phantom fully understood. And because Carolyn is a horse girl, she is the only one who can bring Meredith and Phantom what they need. Through the sketchbook, she can become a part of Meredith and Phantom's past - but the more time she spends in the past, the harder it gets to manage her present world. She has to find what Meredith and Phantom seek before it's too late for her to save either of them.
